As a national company, we enjoy helping clients across the United States connect with the people living in their area. Over the last year, however, we’ve been working with one special client that is close to our hearts.

In February of 2020, we became the official social media manager of our local police department! We met with them to understand their goals and strategize how to get there. They wanted two things out of their social media:

1. To better inform the public.
2. To build stronger bonds with the community.

A year later—life looks a bit different for everyone! We didn’t expect when we signed our police department that a pandemic would begin just a few weeks later. Suddenly, reaching the first goal became more urgent, and the second goal became a little harder to achieve. We shifted our strategies as rapidly as things developed to keep up with the demands of the COVID-19 crisis in our area. We did our best to engage our community with fun, lighthearted content so we had a devoted following who would interact with and share the important press releases and information as it became available. We created campaigns for each borough of our city to show pride in where they live. We helped local institutions feel safer by creating entertaining graphics that raised awareness and helped reduce the need for police presence at their locations. Finally, we showed-off our police being involved in positive public interactions, giving people a chance to see them as fellow citizens instead of just law enforcement.

Our local Police Chief recently shared praise they received at the State level for their social media efforts during this time.

“Thank you for an updated report. You have shown by finding ways to stay involved with your community during the pandemic that you are committed to community policing. Keep doing what you are doing.”

We are proud of what we were able to achieve for our local police department this year, and are excited to see how our continued social media efforts will make our community stronger!
